First up.... Online Cards

Online Cards is my first choice for a designer spotlight. Run by Webgrrl, you'll find, as she states, something different throughout the shop. What hits you first are the fractal designs. Although not her entire focus, Webgrrl uses fractals to the utmost and due to the nature of the images, music-themed designs are her speciality. In reviewing the shop, you can see there is something for everyone and even if fractals are not one's style, there are outstanding business alternatives.

But, first, we'll start with fractals used on business cards...

Fractals and the patterns Webgrrl creates are something I can look at for ages. There are nuances of image in every corner. They lend themselves well to a variety of businesses, especially those with more of an "alternative" slant which might include those in the media and entertainment industry, retail shops or even a personal profile card.
I like how she uses a placeholder for a logo, it's something I find not done very often on many  customizable business cards. Whether they're a one-person shop or one that employs dozens of employees, businesses will more often than not have some sort of logo in use. They may not have a business card but their logo exists and for the sake of corporate identity, it is important to keep it consistent and overt.

Here are more object-based designs:

I love this one for the colors which I just have to call "yummy. The swirls are organic and have a primitive suggestion.

The cursive and italic typography on this card meshes well with the swirly curls of the flower stems.

I see this card working well for a decorator or designer. To me, the graphics have an almost southwestern feel and I can see this in use for a decorator or designer.

We're not only talking about business cards, so here's some other products that are great promotional pieces.
Webgrrl has a wonderful eye for colors and on this sticker she does not disappoint. I can especially see this one being used by homeopaths as there is almost a suggestion of a caduceus. I like designs like this where an image can be interpreted differently from person to person.
The Blackletter typography of the business name on this sticker goes perfectly with the image... dark and gothic, but still absolutely contemporary. Perfectly categorized here for a jewelry designer.
The skinny business cards are a convenient way to network. This would be a great calling card for a DJ This is a new product which I find extremely effective (or maybe I just really like the colors. :)

This is a great example of using a product in a unique way. This is a chubby business card made into a perfect promotion piece by developing it into a Mini-Flyer for an event or party. These would be a great handout or leave-behind and much easier to distribute or post than larger flyers.

Samples of a few complete business packages follow:
Webgrrl is also a very talented photographer, so here are effective business designs incorporating her photographs. Absolutely perfect for travel-related industries.
